Musical Interlude

6:00pmMonday

6:00pmMonday

Presented by David Greenway David has lived in the Glastonbury area since 1980.  He’s a retired Head of Science who now carries out mainly science and mathematics supply teacher duties in many secondary schools in Somerset. He has been an amateur musician since the age of nine, playing in and later directing numerous brass bands and other ensembles. When he played with Glastonbury Town Band, he regularly compered their concerts. He first got involved with GFM in his role as Town Crier of Glastonbury, when he was invited to attend the opening of their new studios. In July 2017, David was interviewed by GFM presenter, Steve Lee at an arts event, “during a gale, in the middle of a muddy field in Butleigh”. Steve later offered David an opportunity to appear on his weekly “Drive Thru” show, with the affectionate introduction: “Oh! For Crying Out Loud, it’s David Greenway!”  David was later encouraged to present his own one-hour show and this began in the Autumn of 2018 as “David Greenway’s Musical Interlude”. “David Greenway’s Musical Interlude” is a one-hour music programme. It aims to be as musically diverse as possible - from Baroque to Punk Rock! Contrasting musical genres are juxtaposed as much as possible. In addition to the more conventional music, any music that’s unusual, querky or even downright bizarre, is celebrated on this show.  Along with the music come a wealth of interesting anecdotes, engaging stories and incredible facts ... all wrapped up with a little humour, from Glastonbury’s chirpy Town Crier.

Folk and Blues show

7:00pmMonday

7:00pmMonday

My love of music and tradition has developed into the Folk and Blues Show;  I like to play the music that you don't always here on the radio especially from artists that put a lot of effort into their music but because they're not mainstream get very little recognition.  Folk music is a deep rooted tradition and culture within Britain that covers such a wide and diverse musical range. The Blues is a part of folk as well and some say we would not have had folk music if it was not for the blues. I get lots of CDs sent in the post from listeners and PR companies around the globe; I open these up on the show, one of which will be 'CD of the week' in my feature  'What's in the post?' In the summer months I celebrate Morris Dancing with 'The Morris Round-Up'  - for all your Morrissing needs! and at the end of each show there may even be Time for Tom? as Tom Waits for no-one.  Just an opportunity to close the weekly show playing a Tom Waits tune.
